MADELEINE JULLIAN
Very Happy Skater
Spanning nearly two decades of footage, Very Happy Skater follows the groove of an edge in the ice. Or is it just some videos of a girl skating?
A SHORT DOCUMENTARY
Directed by: Madeleine Jullian
Genre: Documentary, Short film
Duration: 6 minute 47 seconds
Year: 2024
Spanning nearly two decades of footage, Very Happy Skater tells the story of one girl’s dream and the sport she loves. Or it’s the investigation of why she didn’t succeed. Or it’s the celebration of a sport at a very particular time and place. Or it’s an ode to a coach’s hard work. Or it’s many little girls in pretty dresses, waiting, trying to speak through the hum of ice rink compressors and VHS tapes. Or it’s a study of youth, passion, and pain. Or maybe it’s a dive into why certain things are captured and some are not, and there’s no going back.Or maybe — it’s just some videos of a girl skating.
